My name is Barnaby Lawrence Smith however, many know me by the name Barney. At the moment, living in Bristol, Avon. I am in my first year at university, studying Drawing and Print. As well as this, I am an intern at the printing-based, art studio Jealous, in Shoreditch, London; furthermore, I work part time at Jack Wills; sometimes finding the occasional customer for my personal artwork. Yes, you guessed it, I was that kid who was sat at the art table all day at play school. I found an interest in art from a very young age however, I found a huge passion for it in year eight when my teacher said he wanted me to go to an extra curriculum class due to my talent within the subject. I took it for GCSE and have continued in this subject since. Its one of the few subject areas which I believe you can express your true feelings. If this be politics, my personal interests or something that just looks aesthetically nice. I continue to do art everyday; it is my life, my passion and my aspiration to make a career from it.
My working style started as being a Fine artist, specialising in drawing. I then found a huge passion in my second year of college for the Visual arts, specialising in Print; specifically ScreenPrinting.
Photography is a huge part of my work, I love capturing todays world through the lens, yesterday. I keep this up because many customers tell me I have a good photographers eye.
I continue to produce art for university and my current sketchbook however, I have commissioned art work in the past; I have also sold some of my creations.
If you wish to buy, or have any commissioned ideas, please continue to the 'Contact' page; Thank you.
Drawing and Print.
As I have said, I have worked with pencil, pen and ink from the start of the long artist journey. I feel the traditional technique of pencil, pen and ink on paper will automatically have a positive outcome.
Due to medical grounds I had missed a lot of schooling during my GCSE's. Despite views and opinions all I wished to do was make myself happy and this was achieved with drawing, It reminded me of the times when I was perfectly healthy and fit. I finished my GCSE's with a range of grades but most importantly a B+ in Art.
I then moved to college and was told I had to be more exploratory; I then found a huge interest in printing; I could still draw, I could still collage yet, printing gave me the opportunity to produce a developed art form that kept most people happy and impressed.
I have thoroughly enjoyed learning more about print and hope to keep drawing; I am currently progressing knowledge and skills on the subject of Drawing and Print, I wish to refresh my drawing knowledge and skills and improve further with my printing.
